Visitors’ Memories of Gooderstone

I can write reams on our short time in lovely Gooderstone.
We had planned a trip around the world when our youngest daughter announced her intention of getting married, she eventually picked May 17 for the day which was the middle day of our trip and we were to be in England then. We arrived in Gooderstone via what seemed to be a very torturous tangle of narrow roads and even narrower lanes (we Aussies aren't used to such things). As we were driving down the Street, our imminent son-in-law (Chris Merton), said 'there it is, High House Farm'. And there it was facing us up the Street on a little bit of a dog leg turn in the street. We stayed with Carole and Andrew Merton in High House Farm, had a few drinks with Rosie at the Swan, wandered down the length of the Street and back again, marvelling at the age of some of the houses, and just fell in love with St. George's church with the Norman tower and the gloriously grassed graveyard complete with falling down headstones. Very picturesque and peaceful. On later visits we were no less charmed and are just a little be sad that Carole and Andrew have moved to another village not far away but not Gooderstone.
