A Wilde time at Gooderstone Water Gardens!
Theatre shouldn’t all be about the sets, the lighting, the special effects and the huge chorus of extras, and this production of ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ certainly isn’t! Six actors, a simple set and imagination are all that are required to bring this witty and entertaining play to life. This year DOT Productions will be bringing Oscar Wilde’s most famous play to Gooderstone water Gardens.
The challenge for the company is to create as interesting a piece of theatre for the audience as possible, as being outside means that there are always so many other things the audience can look at. Louisa Marie Hunt, company producer, explains: “We have to be the most interesting thing that the audience can see, it’s all about entertaining them for every second that we are performing, and if they are more interested in looking at ducks flying overhead then we’ve failed. Also the venues that we are touring are all so individual that to try and use a huge amount of set would be impossible. Each show will be different just because of where it is, one day an amphitheatre, the next a golf course!”
However, DOT Productions are not new to the challenges of open-
Gooderstone water gardens is the perfect setting for the play with its gardens and waterways and will add its own charm to this quintessentially English play. Also 50% of the ticket price will go towards Marie Curie cancer care.
The audience are advised to bring warm clothing and an umbrella, neither of which will be needed of course!
